Anthropic launched Claude Design, a new AI-powered design tool, on April 17, 2026. It launched as part of Anthropic Labs- the company’s experimental product division and is currently available in research preview for Claude Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise subscribers.
How Claude Design Works
You start with a text prompt. Claude builds a first version. From there, you refine it by chatting with Claude, leaving inline comments on specific elements, editing text directly, or using sliders Claude generates to tweak spacing, colors, and layout on the fly.
For teams, the standout feature is the design system. During onboarding, Claude reads your codebase and design files to build your brand system with colors, typography, components and applies it automatically to every project you create after that. So everything you produce is already on-brand without extra effort.
When you’re done, you can export to Canva, PDF, PowerPoint, or HTML and if something needs to be built into an actual product, Claude Design packages the design into a handoff bundle you can pass directly to Claude Code.
What You Can Build With Claude Design
Anthropic lists these specific use cases:
- Prototypes: you can turn static mockups into shareable, interactive prototypes without writing code
- Wireframes and feature flows: product managers can sketch ideas and hand them off to developers or designers
- Pitch decks: your pitch decks can go from rough outline to finished, on-brand presentation in minutes, then you export as PPTX
- Marketing assets: you can create landing pages, social media visuals, campaign collateral
- Design explorations: you can quickly generate a wide range of directions before committing to one
Datadog’s product manager, Aneesh Kethini said
Claude Design has made prototyping dramatically faster for our team, enabling live design during conversations. We have gone from a rough idea to a working prototype before anyone leaves the room, and the output stays true to our brand and design guidelines. What used to take a week of back-and-forth between briefs, mockups, and review rounds now happens in a single conversation.
Why This News is Breaking The Internet
Figma stocks fell 12% and Adobe dropped by 4% the day Claude Design launched. This is a sign of how seriously the market is reading this. Design has always required dedicated tools, dedicated skills, and dedicated time. Claude Design compresses all three.
As AI tools like Claude Design take over early-stage design work of wireframes, mockups, and first drafts, companies no longer need to hire a full-time designer for that.
What they need instead are developers and Project managers who can build on top of what the AI produces and that is where thenebula.tech comes in. If your team needs vetted developers or product talent to take a Claude Design prototype and actually build it, thenebula.tech connects you with on-demand tech professionals to execute projects up to 40% more cost-effectively than traditional hiring.
This Claude Design also means the product manager no longer needs to wait for a designer to visualize a feature. A founder can show up to an investor meeting with a working prototype they built themselves. A developer can hand off a design bundle to Claude Code and skip the back-and-forth entirely. The gap between having an idea and showing it to someone just got a lot smaller.
Anthropic positions Claude Design as a complement to existing tools, not a replacement as designs can still be exported directly to Canva where they become fully editable and collaborative. For professional designers, it’s a speed and exploration tool.
Claude Design is still in research preview, so rough edges exist but if you are on a paid Claude plan, it is available now at claude.ai/design.
